FEATURE PROJECT
Historic 1920’s Streetlights
Mainstreet Shelbyville has refurbished two of the original 1928 Union Metal Company streetlights that were in the downtown from 1928 to the 1960’s. The lights have been mounted on bases and wired for display. These lights with accompanying information will be displayed in various locations throughout town, including the Porter Visitor’s Center, City Hall, the Hospital, and other locations. We intend to generate interest in replacing our current streetlights with historically accurate replicas. When you see one of the lights, please take a moment to get a glimpse of Shelbyville’s history up close. Special thanks to Reliant Electric for donating their services.

Thanks to Benesee Oncology Center and City Hall for hosting our lights this summer. Come visit our lights during the Holiday Season as they light up Santa’s House in Shelbyville’s downtown Public Square.

BUSINESS NEWS
Mainstreet Shelbyville Facade Grant Program:
“The first Mainstreet Shelbyville Façade Grant was awarded to the owner of the buildings at 114, 116, and 118 S. Harrison. The improvements will include tuck pointing, window repair and restoration, painting, and new awnings. Watch for big changes at this busy corner of Shelbyville! Applications for the next round of Façade Grants are due MAY 1st by 5:00 pm in the Mainstreet Shelbyville office in the Porter Center at 501 N. Harrison. NEWS UPDATE
Wayfinding Signs Update:
The permit application to place the Wayfinding Signs has been approved by the Indiana Department of Tourism. We had to modify the design to comply with the Department of Transportation requirements. INDOT now needs to issue the permit. Once Mainstreet receives the permit, the signs will be manufactured, which takes about 4 weeks. We anticipate that they will be installed in the next couple of months!
